Simon enjoys foreign travel, hill walking, and wine. In his younger days he played in the local football league but nowadays enjoys watching professional football.
Simon is the longest serving member of staff at Hethertons, having joined the firm (Hetherton & Dempsey as it was then) in 1981. He has experience in many areas of legal work but has concentrated on family law for the last 20 years.
Simon has extensive experience of divorce and separation including claims for maintenance, money, property and pensions. Simon has handled numerous cases involving high value assets (over £1million), family businesses and complicated pension arrangements, including those of the police and armed forces. He has represented unmarried partners claiming a share of property under trust legislation and negotiated numerous cohabitation and pre-nuptial agreements.
He has a wealth of experience in children cases, including applications relating to residence and contact, emigration and change of name. He has also represented parents and grandparents in care proceedings.
Simon is a member of Resolution (formerly the Solicitors Family Law Association), an accredited member of the Law Society’s Family Panel and a Resolution Accredited Specialist in Financial and Children proceedings. He is also a trained collaborative lawyer and a qualified mediator.
