  Over half of employers unaware of the upcoming Good Work Plan


 

According to a recent survey, over half of UK employers are unaware of how the upcoming Good Work Plan changes will affect their business.

From April this year, changes to the current employment laws will come into force that will provide additional employment rights of workers and employees.

  Boots facing legal action over equal pay claim


 

High Street giant Boots could be set for a £180 million payout to staff over an equal pay claim affecting thousands of their employees.

Currently, more than 550 current and former employees, most of whom are female have signed up to take part in legal proceedings against Boots on the grounds that in-store staff, the vast majority of whom are women, are paid less than the business’s predominantly male warehouse workers.

  Company fined after worker loses his arm in conveyor belt accident


 

A waste recycling plant has been prosecuted by the Health and Safety Executive (HSE) after an employee lost part of his arm as a result of a conveyor belt accident.

Lincoln Crown Court heard how on 26 April 2015 an employee of Mid-UK Recycling Ltd was working as a line operator in the Material Recovery Facility building. Earlier that morning blockages had occurred on the line resulting in waste becoming wrapped around the axle stopping a lower conveyor.

Payout for 89-year-old NHS secretary sacked ‘because she wouldn’t use the office computer’


 

An NHS trust has made a payout to an 89-year-old woman who was found by an Employment Tribunal to have been unfairly dismissed as a result of being discriminated against because of her age.

Eileen Jolly was dismissed from her role as a secretary at the Royal Berkshire Hospital after managers said she was not using a computer system as a result of her ‘old secretarial ways’.

Just 4 in 10 businesses are fully compliant with new European data protection rules, a major study has revealed.

The research, published by cloud data experts Talend, shows that despite the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) coming into force over a year ago, businesses are still failing to follow legal protocol.
