Discrimination against tenants on housing benefits in letting adverts set to be banned


Representatives of the landlords association, tenant groups, property websites and mortgage providers are set to meet with Ministers in a bid to tackle discrimination against people on housing benefit in the private rental sector.

The Housing Minister Heather Wheeler believes adverts which specify that people on housing benefit cannot rent the property should be banned and she is calling on landlords and letting agents to stop saying No to DSS claimants.

According to the latest research, First-time-buyers make up the biggest part of the property market in the UK for the first time in 23 years.

The data from the latest Halifax first time buyer review revealed that the overall number of first time buyers reached 372,000 in 2018, which accounted for the majority of home purchases for the first time since 1995.

The Government has launched a first-of-its-kind ‘holiday pay’ advertising campaign designed to encourage workers to understand their legal rights in the workplace.
