North Yorkshire County Council is facing a legal challenge over its decision to introduce charges for school transport.

Parents of pupils with special educational needs (SEN) are looking into the possibility of action after it was claimed the consultation process regarding the proposed charges was flawed. Issues raised included poorly communicated information and a lack of consultation with the service’s actual users.

The intended refurbishment of York’s historic Guildhall has hit a setback after City of York Council pulled the plug on a £9 million pound renovation.

The major overhaul was to have included new offices, along with a café and restaurant, but rising costs have seen the deal with contractors, Interserve, come to a premature end. Even so, the council says it remains “committed” to the proposed development.
