Last week the 23rd Press Business Awards took place at a black tie event at the Knavesmire. This was an exciting event for nominees and attendees alike. Hethertons were keeping a particularly close eye on the winners of the event as this year we sponsored the category for ‘Small Business of the Year’.
This category considers those businesses in the region which have been trading for more than a year and have a turnover of less than £3 million. Nominated for this category were businesses The Distance, Yorvale and The Dog Walker. Before the award night it was anybody’s guess as to which of these fantastic small businesses would take the prize.
Hethertons would like to say a huge congratulations to Yorvale ice cream company who were winners of Small Business Of The Year on the night. The judges of the Small Business Award said Yorvale stood out as the winner having grown to be a recognised brand across the north of England, moving from a seasonal business to a year round operation.

Upon winning the award Yorvale’s Mrs Buxton said: “The award is fantastic, and is great recognition for the staff who put in so much hard work. We are very much aware that you are nobody without your staff, and winning tonight will really help to give them the boost they deserve.”
Alongside Yorvale, we would also like to take the time to congratulate two of our clients who took away awards on the night.
Winning Young Entrepreneur Of The Year was founding director of The Distance, Ryan Atkins. Ryan took the award as the judges commented on his clear vision for the business and the hard work he puts into recruiting high-calibre staff who share that same vision. Mr Atkins said: “Our strategy thus far has been fairly simple, deliver exceptional quality and scale our commercial relationships with our clients, building on the success of the work we create for them.”

Taking home the Business Personality Of The Year award on the night was Owen Turner of United By Design. Upon awarding Mr Turner the prize the judges commented on his business presence stating he “makes a strong impression on those he meets in an unassuming way”.
Owen was delighted to receive the award stating: “I am over-whelmed that I have won the award. I’ve put a lot of hard work into the businesses, and I’m very grateful the business community has given me the chance to be here tonight.
“I definitely couldn’t have done it without the support of my family and friends, and my fantastic staff.”

We are very pleased that not just one but two of our clients won awards on what was a fantastic night of socialising and celebration. Congratulations to nominees and winners who are definitely all worth keeping a close eye on in the year to come.
