Investigation after worker dies in late-night incident

The Health and Safety Executive (HSE) was notified last month following a fatal incident at a Yorkshire textile mill.

Emergency services were call to I.F.G. Drake, in Golcar, following reports that a member of staff working a night shift had been dragged into machinery and crushed.

Paramedics rushed to the premises, but it was confirmed that 51-year-old Javeed Ghaffar had died at the scene in the early hours of the morning.

West Yorkshire Police were called to investigate what was described as a “work-related death” and officials from the HSE also arrived to assess the scene.

A spokesman for the firm said they were “fully co-operative with all the authorities.”

I.F.G Drake is one of Europe’s leading independent manufacturers of polypropylene fibres and yarns and has been in operation for more than 100 years.
