Hethertons Solicitors is playing its part in ensuring local businesses are meeting their obligations with regards to their data management.
With the General Data Protection Regulations (GDPR) set to become law on 25 May 2018, it has been decided it is once again time to get the message out there.
Building on the success of its previous free seminar in March – attended by more than 70 local businesses – Hethertons’ specialist team will be hosting a breakfast briefing on 25 April to give practical advice on what to do in the month before the new data protection laws come into effect.
The aim of the talk will be to let companies know how to make preparations so they are not caught out when the GDPR regulations come in.
Entitled GDPR is just around the corner? Are you ready? The presentation will be held by Hethertons’ Head of Employment, Jo Yeates and Senior Associate, David Scott, and will cover specifics relating to GDPR, such as:
- Drafting your Privacy Notice
- What should be in your Article 30 Record
- Is your Data Protection Policy compliant?
- Do you know what to do if there is a data breach?
- How to respond to Individual Rights
Local businesses will be provided with a wealth of tips and advice to help ensure they are compliant with the new rules. Afterwards there will be an opportunity for attendees to put their questions to the experts.
Speaking on the importance of businesses getting clear policies for GDPR in place, Jo Yeates said: “Many businesses may not have grasped the impact that GDPR will have on the way they collect, handle and store data, but it is imperative that they begin to prepare immediately. We were, therefore, very happy to be joined by so many inquisitive business leaders at our latest talk.
“With fines of up to €20 million for the most serious data breaches it certainly pays to plan ahead and it is clear that for many companies these regulations have come as somewhat of a surprise, but now is the time to prepare.”
