Simon Crack – Commercial and Disputes

Simon joined Hethertons in 1999 and specialises in advising the firm’s business clients. He has wide experience of business-related issues and has a long relationship with some of York’s leading businesses.

He helped with the development of Hethertons Business Service Unit (BSU) which assists a number of businesses in Yorkshire.

He is a member of the York and North Yorkshire Chamber of Commerce and the Law Society’s Property Section.

Jo Yeates – Employment Law

Jo qualified as a solicitor in 1994 and has spent more than a decade working exclusively in employment law. Jo joined Hethertons in 2007, having previously been a partner at a Leeds firm, specialising in employment law and managing internal staff issues.

She is a member of the Employment Lawyers Association and IOSH – the world’s largest chartered body for health and safety professionals.

Barbara Stephens – Wills, Probate, Trusts and Powers of Attorney

Barbara worked as a trainee solicitor at Harrogate-based law firms Myers & Co and Berwins before joining Hethertons in 2002. She is an expert in probate, trust and Willls issues.

She is a member of the Society of Trust and Estate Practitioners (STEP), the specialist professional body for the trust and estate profession worldwide.  She is also a member of the Private Client section of the Law Society and SFE (Solicitors for the Elderly).

Mark Dalton – Health and Safety

Mark spent over 15 years in the construction industry before becoming a health & safety consultant working for a London based consultancy firm and then in the insurance industry nationally. This varied background has given Mark the skills and experience to work with organisations of all sizes in a wide range of business sectors.

Mark is a Chartered Safety and Health Practitioner and a Chartered Member of the Institution of Occupational Safety and Health (CMIOSH).

Simon Nellar – Family Law

Simon is the longest serving member of staff at Hethertons, having joined the firm (Hetherton & Dempsey as it was then) in 1981, becoming a partner in 1985.

He has experience in many areas of legal work but has concentrated on family law for the last 20 years.

Simon has handled numerous cases involving high value assets (over £1million), family businesses and complicated pension arrangements, including those of the police and armed forces.

Simon is a member of Resolution (formerly the Solicitors Family Law Association), an accredited member of the Law Society’s Family Panel and a Resolution Accredited Specialist in Financial and Children proceedings. He is also a trained collaborative lawyer and a qualified mediator.

David Hallam – Commercial Property

David has been a lawyer for 25 years and a partner at Hethertons since 1994. He heads up the firm’s commercial property department and is involved in all aspects of leases of business premises, including assignments and renewals, acquisition of development sites and subsequent plot sales and agricultural property, including farm acquisitions.

David is very client focused and aims to exceed his clients’ expectations in every job he undertakes. This is reflected in the large number of repeat instructions he receives.

Tom Henry – Commercial Property

Tom joined Hethertons in 2008 having worked for law firms in Harrogate and Leeds and became a partner in 2010. He specialises in all aspects of commercial property and has a broad range of commercial clients.

He has extensive experience acting in both commercial property acquisitions and disposals as well as dealing with all aspects of landlord and tenant work, including options and overage agreements.

Jessica Roberts – Corporate

Jessica was appointed Head of Corporate Law at Hethertons in 2015 having begun her career as a solicitor with a law firm in Leeds in 2001. Having gained significant experience in corporate and commercial law, she moved back to her home town of York.

She is responsible for working with a range of businesses to deliver all aspects of company commercial law. She is a member of the National and Yorkshire Branch of the Law Society.
